A group from the HK Mantas swimming club visited the Home in April, 2008 to give some of the swimmers an idea of why they would be swimming so many lengths of the pool to raise money - something the club members have been doing for many years.
"We were made to feel very welcome and were shown around the different sections of the home."
Below are a few responses from those who visited.
Thanks so much for organizing the visit to HOLF. We found it inspiring, humbling, educational, enjoyable and a reminder of how we shouldn't take anything for granted. It definitely will motivate us at the Swimathon. Karen
It was nice to see the children have fun even though they were disabled. The kids were really intelligent and fun. It was so nice to see them smile. I will be more than happy to raise money for the charity in the Swim-a-thon and help them. I would like to visit them again because it was fun to play with the kids. Miles
Seeing all those children, most of which were heavily disabled, was an amazing experience. The complex consisted of two main blocks, and in the middle was a playground. After visiting them in one of the blocks we took them down to the playground to play. To see a bunch of very unfortunate children laughing and having fun was incredible. Taylor.
I really enjoyed the visit. I felt very sad for the people who were stuck in their wheelchairs and it made me feel so lucky that I can walk, run and communicate so easily. It made me realise how good my quality of life is and that we should try to be kind to people who are less fortunate than us. I am going to try very hard to complete 5000m swimathon to raise money for the Home. Isobel.
The carers were so kind to the disabled people in the Home. I enjoyed the company of the children and especially looking after the younger ones.
I will try to raise as much money as possible for the swim-a-thon on 8th May. Thank you for organising the visit. I really learnt a lot. Tara.
I enjoyed the visit to the Home but I was sorry for some of the people who can't do very much. It was fun playing with the children - they were really nice children and I liked helping them play. The man who spoke to us was very kind and told us all about the children. Rosie.
