My two month experience at HOLF has been rewarding and challenging. I remember showing up in Hong Kong the first day and thinking what have I gotten myself in to. The first week was the toughest because I had to get my body adjusted to the time change and had to learn each child's routine.
From day one the kids stole my heart. I loved hearing each one of their stories and learning about their life before HOLF. It is amazing to see God's presence in each one of their stories. After that first week I found peace that came from God, about being at the home. God has shown me that I am capable of working with special needs children. After this experience I know that I want to be a special needs teacher. This trip has given me a lot of experience and confidence that I did not have before.
Being in Hong Kong has helped learn how simplistic my life can be. The people that work here blow your mind away because of all the time and love they put into each day. Working at this home is also a very humbling experience. While I am here I have learned to love people like I
have never loved before, and that is my purpose at the home. The Upper Ark, where I was assigned to work, has pushed me mentally and spiritually like never before. I want to be able to take this experience home with me but I don't think I will be properly able to tell people about this home. I have grown because of this trip, and I am a different person. I will never forget the people at HOLF who have changed my life.
